The 2023 Women of Color STEM Awards named Tamika Gray, a Proposal Project Manager at Health Catalyst, a Technology All-Star. This Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) honors women whose leadership and management set them apart, particularly by demonstrating exceptional achievements and working beyond traditional female roles. A panel grants the award to accomplished women of color from mid-level to advanced stages of their careers, typically with over 15 years in the workforce, who have demonstrated excellence in the workplace and their communities.
Gray stumbled into the healthcare technology industry because of her interest in improving people’s lives. Utilizing her extensive background in proposal management, Gray’s role involves supporting the sales operations team by crafting compelling proposal content that enhances awareness and understanding of Health Catalyst’s capabilities, technology, and service. Gray oversees schedules and assignments, leading cross-functional teams throughout the new business proposal process.
Gray is also an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. In addition to her proposal management role, she serves as the Historian and Vice-Chair for Health Catalyst’s Shades Affinity Group for team members of color and their allies. In this role, she writes educational and promotional content highlighting events across the United States, infusing her “go-getter” attitude and passion for connecting and supporting team members. The Shades Affinity Group membership and participation has grown significantly thanks to Gray's innovative approach to communicating and recruiting team members to attend and participate in events.
One of the most popular events she has organized is in honor of International Jazz Day. As part of this event, Gray creates jazz playlists and convenes team members to listen, share stories, and celebrate this music genre’s history. Gray also serves as the Planning Committee Chair for the 2023 Heath Catalyst Women of Color STEM Conference sponsorship. “We’re proud of all the things that we’ve done to keep team members engaged and to help leadership with solving different issues,” Gray said of her role in the Shades Affinity group. “My work has been very rewarding.”
Gray exhibits a knack for effectively managing and overseeing tasks at work and home. However, juggling the responsibilities of being a mother of two children, a wife to her husband, and fulfilling many obligations professionally and personally also prompts Gray to place significant importance on self-care and mental health. She is known among colleagues for her positive attitude and dedication to Health Catalyst’s mission, vision, and values.
