Carle Health needed an efficient, cost-effective solution to comply with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) price transparency requirements. The organization utilized the Hospital Price Index™ (HPI), a solution that delivers accessible, machine-readable pricing data for each hospital, complete with detailed descriptions and pricing information for various insurance payers. Carle Health is now able to efficiently manage pricing requests and offer patients transparent pricing information.
Carle Health needed an efficient, cost-effective method to comply with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) price transparency requirements. Failure to meet the requirement would result in steep fines. Carle Health had a solution to meet the requirement, but it wasn’t cost-effective, and the organization needed help providing patients with transparent, up-to-date pricing information.
Carle Health implemented the Hospital Price Index™ (HPI). HPI generates accessible pricing information online as a machine-readable file for each Carle Health hospital. Every service contains an easy-to-understand description of the item or service and standard charges information, including the gross charge, discounted cash price, average negotiated charge for each insurance payer, and de-identified minimum and maximum.
Using HPI, Carle Health is providing clear, accessible pricing information and education to its patients. The organization made its standard charges public, ensuring compliance with CMS’ price transparency requirements and avoiding non-compliance penalties. Carle Health can effectively respond to pricing inquiries, efficiently address questions, and demonstrate compliance.
"Hospital Price Index enables us to provide patients with accurate, up-to-date pricing data, ensuring compliance and keeping us penalty-free."
